Forum registrations…

January 7th, 2009 by Spencer Wysinger

If you were previously trying to signup on the forums for some off-the-hook BBS shenanigans and then realized you were in “approval limbo” for the rest of eternity, I have some good news for you. Registrations are now back open to the public and anyone can sign up now without waiting for approval.

You will need to resubmit a registration request, which you can do in about five seconds, at which point you’ll be ready to go.

Avatars on blog comments and forum posts…

January 2nd, 2009 by Spencer Wysinger

Both this blog’s comment system and the forums now support the Gravatar (globally recognized avatar) service.

First, go to gravatar.com and sign up with simply an email/password/avatar. The email you sign up with should be the one you use when making posts/comments (doesn’t have to be made visible to anyone, just the same).

This blog will pickup the avatar automatically w/in a few minutes. To use it on the forum, edit your forum profile like you would to update your avatar and select the new “Gravatar” option. Again, you need to make sure the forum has the same email address on file that you use when commenting here.

Once you’re done, voila! Gravatar is increasingly becoming adopted by other sites, so it’ll payoff even more as time goes on…

Tablature…

…is fixed (finally). You can find links to them from a song’s page. Check Borateen for an example.

Shiny and new, yeah…

Welcome to the revamped self-centered.org!

First thing you’ll notice is that this blog is now the doormat of the site. It will also be where you can find actual news related to both the site and Mahaffey-related happenings.

Second thing you’ll notice is a refreshed look & feel. I’m still twiddling the knobs, so things aren’t anywhere near ‘complete’ yet, but it’s getting there. Any glitches should be reported in the forums.

Tablature is next up on the list — it’s been broken for far too long. Next will be convergence between the forum, blog and site content (media, lyrics, etc.).
